Hello Linux Geeksters. HPLIP 3.14.1 has been recently released a while ago. As you may know, HPLIP comes from HP Linux Imaging and Printing, the generical Linux drivers for the HP printers.

Since it is not a major release, it only comes with a bunch if bug-fixes.

In this article I will show you how to install HPLIP 3.14.1 on the Linux systems that have official support for it:

  • OpenSUSE 13.1, OpenSUSE 12.3 and OpenSUSE 12.2
  • Fedora 19, Fedora 18 and Fedora 17
  • Ubuntu 13.10, Ubuntu 13.04 Raring Ringtail, Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal, Ubuntu 12.04 Precise Pangolin, Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx, Linux Mint 15 Olivia , Linux Mint 14 Nadia, Linux Mint 13 Maya, Elementary OS 0.2 Luna, Pear OS 8 and Pear OS 7.
  • Debian 7.2 Wheezy, KWheezy 1.3, KWheezy 1.2 and Debian 6.0.8 Squeeze

Because the HPLIP drivers come as a precompiled binary file, all you have to do is download the driver, set execution permissions and run the installer. Like this:

$ wget http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/hplip/hplip-3.14.1.run
$ sudo chmod +x hplip-3.14.1.run
$ ./hplip-3.13.11.run
